A communication skill is vital in today environment and there is always an organic need that exists for an effective communication verbally or through different mediums. Communications are important skills that bring values to the works environment both internally and externally from business that establish for work efficiency as a whole.

Detailed Outlines

How to Become a Better Communicator

This workshop will focus on intrapersonal communication (communication with ourselves) and interpersonal communication (our communication with others).

Writing Skills to Succeed in Business

This workshop will explore the steps involved in being able to write better business communication.

The workshops will explore:

  • What is the purpose of your writing? To inform, persuade, request action?
  • The importance of identifying what you want to achieve in your written communication
  • Organization of ideas
  • Logical structure
  • The importance of clarity & simplicity
  • Examples
  • Writing the first draft
  • Refining the first draft
  • Layout – presentation
  • Report writing.

Workshops will also help to identify and remedy writing problems.

Motivation & Assertion

What motivates us?

This workshop will firstly explore common human motivating factors (e.g., Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs).

Is fear a motivating factor? Is money the motivation?

How do successful companies motivate their sales teams?

This module will explore case studies as examples.

Finally, how can we better motivate ourselves and others around us?

To clarify this process, students will be encouraged to identify their own goals and the steps involved in how to achieve these goals. This will involve each student being asked to draw up a realistic time line for attainment.

Critical Thinking

This workshop will consider the importance of critical thinking in terms of developing our abilities to understand and use rational argument.  ‘Argument’ in this context is an term that describes the process of making a proposition and then justifying this proposition by way of supporting data and case studies.

This workshop will also critically evaluate sources of information (for example Google, Google Scholar, Wikipedia and other data bases). The aim here is to gain a better awareness of quality information.

The workshop will also explore common fallacies and attempts to persuade us by faulty reasoning.

After an exploration of these processes, students will be encouraged to

  • debate a current topic, using reasoned argument
  • debate another current topic, aiming to persuade with no holds barred.

Following each debate, students should then attempt to identify and evaluate responsible arguments, and also identify faulty reasoning.


Throughout recorded history, persuasion has been one of the most studied aspects of human behaviour.  If leaders are not able to persuade others, how could they lead?  If people could not be persuaded to obey even the most elementary rules such as keeping to one side of the street when travelling by car, or obeying traffic lights, how could our cities function without utter chaos?  It can be argued that persuasion is at the very basis of our lives.

Persuasion is also important in determining how successful we are. We persuade other people to give us jobs, and the organisations we join persuade others to buy their goods or services. On a more personal and perhaps more important level, we use persuasion to convince others of our sincerity, or worth, and of our status and our goals.

This workshop will explore persuasion from different perspectives, including psychology (our basic desires and needs), political science (the study of governments and how they try to seek approval), advertising and marketing (the consumer society) and the information environment, including censorship (cultural influences).  All of these impact our daily lives, and influence and shape the way we are.

For simplification, this workshop will largely focus on our basic desires and needs and how these are targeted within our own cultural contexts.

The workshop will explore common persuasion techniques (conscious and subconscious) and will also examine case studies of famous examples of persuasion in action.

Management Skills & How to be a Better Manager

What are the ingredients of success in the world’s top companies?

The workshop will explore bad management practices, good management practices and how to implement workplace improvements.

The workshop will use case studies as examples, and will explore important components such as organizational skills and time management.

Powerful Presentations

This is about how to stand front of an audience and deliver a successful, motivating speech.

Components will include:

  • Case studies – famous communicators and why they were successful
  • Research and preparation. For example, who is the audience? What will interest this audience?
  • How to handle nervous tension
  • The importance of illustration and best practices
  • Structure
  • Audience involvement.

The workshop will explore basic techniques, and will also encourage students to identify and amplify their own strengths as communicators.
